Keeping Children Safe
Course Description
This programme highlights the vital message of prevention. It strongly links to meeting many of the requirements under the Early Years Foundation Stage by giving practitioners the knowledge and skills to support and enable children to protect themselves. There is a strong emphasis on this committment in the EYFS under the theme The Unique Child - Keeping Safe and Positive Relationships. and the session gives practitioners practical examples on how to meet the requirements outlined. It provides workers with fresh ideas and creative strategies to empower and protect children.
This session is delivered over 1 x 3hr session, 1 x 6hr full day or 2 x 3hr half day/evening sessions
Aims and Objectives
To consider the importance of teaching children self protection
The importance of self esteem building, empowerment and communciation with children
The importance of partnership with parents - working together to teach children effective self protection
To provide links to recent developments in national policy on monitoring sexual offenders, patterns of paedophile behaviour, current terminology and the influence of high profile cases e.g Sara Payne
To develop knowledge and awareness of the key messages children need to learn to keep safe
To promote and learn new, effective, practical and sensitive strategies to teach children key safety messages e.g. bodily awareness, unsafe and safe touches, safe and unsafe secrets, stranger safety and many more...
The session provides practitioners with extensive liinks to up to date practical resources which can be used in settings in every day practice to empower and teach children personal safety
