Safeguarding Children in Education

Course Description

This course considers the issue of Safeguarding specifically tailored to the role and responsibilties  of staff in edcuation.This session provides practitioners with essential knowledge and understanding of their role in safeguarding children and their child protection responsibilities. It considers safeguarding responsibilities and covers the pressures that families may face.

It provides relevant and up to date information regarding key issues and links to  both national and regional LSCB guidance. The session also provides a guide to safe practice evaluating and reflecting on current practice in settings and preparing for inspection. The session is in line with the guidance for safeguarding training as outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2010. 

This course can be delivered over 1 x 6hr full day session, 2 x 3hr half day/evening sessions or 3 x 2hr sessions.

 

 

Aims and Objectives

Lessons from high profile cases in education such as Lauren Wright and subsequent legislation

Why education staff need to be part of the safeguarding/ child protection process?

What is  our role and our responsibilities in safeguarding children?

Brief refresher on key signs and symptoms of abuse

To refresh on Local thresholds of need and to update on LSCB safeguarding procedures we will look at the relevant  areas we need to know;  how to access them on the website and use them practically in our role, including appropriate intervention at different levels of need/risk and up to date referral procedures and contacts

To refresh on our role in information sharing/record keeping  and early intervention ( brief overview of CAF if necessary)

Safer working practice - linking to the Guidance for Safer Working Practice ( including use of social media e.g. face book)  and staff responsibilities and consider the case of Nigel Leat and lessons to learn.

Handling allegations against staff and the role of the LADO
