Course Description
This session explores a child's first steps to self - understanding and indentity. As a child explores the world through interaction with parents and caregivers they become aware they have increasing control - they are an agent of change within their own environment. They are able to cause things to happen and control objects. This awareness is known as "self - as - subject", "I" or the "existential self". This session promotes how workers can support a child's grown sense of identity through appropriate activities and resources which promote a child's awareness of their unique self. It has strong links to the early years foundation unique child commitments and promotes the effective support of all aspects of children's social and emotional well being.
This coursecan be delivered over 1 x 3hr, 2 x 3hr or 1 x 6hr session
Aims and Objectives
To consider the importance of a child's concept of their own identity - as a basic developmental need of children.
To consider links to relevant legislation - UN convention on the Rights of the Child links to the child and frameworks such as CAF.
To explore a wide and varied range of resources and activities to promote the unique child and the concept of "whats is self?".
To explore how children become aware of their own identity.
To develop knowledge and understanding of how children learn the uniqueness of their own experiences and their distinctiveness from others.
To explore how children become aware of the continuity of their own identity.
